Sometimes something simple will surprise you. That was the case yesterday when I ordered this Avocado Grapefruit Salad at my local taco joint. It was, quite simply, the best salad that I’ve had all year.
What makes a salad sexy? It titillates. It tempts. It smolders. And it soothes.
The avocado was perfectly ripe, so it was creamy. The grapefruit was tart, sure, but a little bit of sweetness came through too with each burst of its juice. Thinly sliced red onions added punch and crunchy slivers of radish brought bite and texture too. Plump, halved cherry tomatoes were toothsome and sweetish, while tiny bits of jalapeno showed up to say hello with a hint of heat. Toasted sesame seeds brought a nutty dimension and the cilanto-laced lime vinaigrette was the perfect acidic complement to this ideal construction. Every one of the taste buds was engaged. And happy.
Easy to duplicate, by the way…fresh squeezed lime juice blended with olive oil and salt will qualify as your dressing.
